You've probably heard these common inspirational sports quotes:

-Success happens outside of our comfort zone.
-Get comfortable being uncomfortable.
-If you never leave your comfort zone, you won't grow.

The truth is that no one is ever done learning about horses. So the more that you can be comfortable being uncomfortable, the more that you will learn and grow along your horsemanship journey.

So how do you get comfortable being uncomfortable?
First, you have to start. That first step is often the hardest, venturing out into the unknown and trying something new. It might be showing in a new class, or at a higher level. Maybe it is trying a new maneuver. Whatever it is, take that step!

Second, surround yourself with supportive people. That may be your trainer who helps you learn, a supportive riding buddy, friend, or family member. Or, a personal performance coach can help you along your journey. A strong support system is essential for learning and trying new things.

Third, view mistakes as part of the learning process-you just learned what doesn't work.

Fourth, commit to continuing. Success doesn't happen overnight. Perseverance is key to success!

Fifth, recognize the small victories along the way, and celebrate them!

If you embrace that uncomfortable feeling, and view your horsemanship as a life-long learning journey, you will achieve more.

So get out there and take that first step! You can do that!
